I recently watched The Fall directed by Tarsem Singh. This Film premiered in 2006, and was released in 2008 when presented by David Fincher, and Spike Jonze. AND I only found out about it NOW. Shame, Shame on you. I wish I had learned about it sooner. Because this is now my favorite movie. It is Amazing. Beautiful. Touching. Imaginative. Inspiring. You can really feel the heart and thought that went into this film. There is so much to say about it but so much I can’t say. Because you need to go see this for yourself. Rent it, buy it. Watch it in high quality because it’s so beautiful. If you need more convincing, look at these screenshots and watch the trailer, at the end of post.
I watched it twice in a row, then watched the behind the scenes extras. I should have just purchased it instead of renting it. There are so many reasons to love this film.
The cinematography is breathtaking and the story telling is enveloping and charismatic. The locations are so beautiful it feels unreal, almost like special effects must have created these places. But they are real. (I found a blog that just pinpoints the locations in the film, instant travel checklist) I want to go to them all. And the costumes, by the award winning designer Eiko Ishioka, were gorgeous and iconic. The acting is amazing. The characters are so convincing, going in and out of a fantasy, without forgetting what it is to be human.
And best of all the story is uniquely inspiring, “a gentle reminder of the fantastic, mythical and magical components of what is best in humanity whilst not forgetting what it means to be human”.
